Professional
I have always been fascinated by technology and how things work. As a teenager I installed my own car and home stereos. Eventually I took up DJing, which combined my love of music and technology. I began my career in media at the University of Oregon, where I studied Journalism and served as the Production Director for KWVA, the campus radio station. Before graduation, I worked as the morning video editor at KEZI. After graduation, I was hired at KVAL in Eugene as a producer, before moving to KATU in Portland in a similar role. Next, it was on to Vancouver Public Schools, where I have served as the TV Production Supervisor.
As a professional, I have a wide-ranging skill set. One concept I picked up during my time in education is that it’s important to be a lifelong learner, and I have taken that to heart. I love the creative side of video – telling stories, designing graphics, and producing great video content – but I also enjoy the more technical end of video. That includes engineering, systems design, coding, and video-over-IP.
Personal
I am an Emmy-award winning TV and PR professional, with a passion for music, film, and sports.
I moved to Portland, Oregon from South Dakota when I was ten, and love living here. I am married with a son. I played high school sports (and a little in college), and still love to play basketball with my friends every Tuesday night. I enjoy cooking and watching movies.
I’ve been DJing for fun since 1998, so check out the Fun Stuff area of my website if you want to take a listen. That area also includes my podcast, “Film Swap,” which I produce and co-host with my friend Angelica.
Sports Broadcasting
I built a successful high school broadcasting program in Vancouver Public Schools, called “VPS Game Time,” that broadcasts live on cable and the web, and works in conjunction with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association to broadcast state championship games. This work includes not only engineering video kits, but educating students and volunteers on best practices. See some of the news coverage our program has garnered over the years.
Video Storytelling
I’m an experienced videographer/editor and visual storyteller. I can produce videos in a variety of styles to suit each project, either as a one-man-band or part of a larger team. My background in TV news combined with my years of experience in PR and cable broadcasting have given me a well-rounded perspective and set of skills. Check out some of my work samples!
Video Engineering
In my career I’ve built studio and remote systems from the ground up, using traditional and IP-based video and audio systems. This includes video switchers, studio cameras, PTZ cameras, instant replay, graphics, cabling, NDI and Dante networking, and more.
